Sending a Check-In/Preset Message From the GPSMAP 66i, 67i, 86i, or 86sci
Check-In Messages (previously known as Preset Messages) on the Garmin GPSmap series devices, such as the 67i, are preconfigured by Aware360 for use with SafetyAware. These messages include:
- Begin Monitoring
- Check-in
- End Monitoring
How to Send Check-In Messages on the Garmin GPSmap 67i:
- Press the MENU button twice to access the main menu.
- Select Messages.
- Choose either Send Preset or Send Check-In.
- Select the message you want to send.
- Press Send Message.
Ensure you have a clear view of the sky for the message to send successfully. The device will confirm the message was transmitted; however, users previously did not receive confirmation that the message was properly received and processed by the system. This could be due to errors in device configuration or incorrect user assignment. There were also no reminders or notifications for missed Safety Timer check-ins or expired Shift Timers.
New Confirmation Process for SafetyAware Commands:
After sending any SafetyAware command, users will now receive a confirmation message in the Messages inbox on their inReach device. These messages originate from the inReach Admin email address, typically: admin.gp.production@aware360.com (the "Admin" contact).
Confirmation Messages:
The following confirmation messages will be received, where <User Name>
refers to the name of the user assigned to the device in Control Centre:
<User Name> - startmonitor
: Monitoring has started.<User Name> - checkin
: Check-in message sent.<User Name> - stopmonitor
: Monitoring has stopped.<User Name> - hazardset
: Hazard Timer set.<User Name> - hazardcancel
: Hazard Timer canceled.<User Name> - assist
: Assistance requested.<User Name> - assistcancel
: Assistance request canceled.<User Name> - sos
: SOS initiated.<User Name> - soscancel
: SOS canceled.
Alerts for Expired Timers:
Users will also receive alerts when a timer has expired and requires action:
<User Name> - safetyexpired
: User should check-in if safe to clear the alert.<User Name> - hazardexpired
: User should cancel the Hazard Timer to clear the alert.<User Name> - shiftexpired
: User should sign off to clear the Shift Timer alert.
Geofence Violation Alerts:
If configured, geofence violation alerts will also be received:
<User Name> - geofencein
: User has entered a restricted geofence area and should leave.<User Name> - geofenceout
: User has left a safe zone and should return.
For both types of geofence violations, the user will also receive any app notifications configured for the inReach device.
Error Messages and Incorrect User Assignment:
If the inReach device is not assigned to a user in Control Centre, the following error message will appear:
- Error: Unassigned
If the device is assigned to another user, the confirmation messages listed above will display the incorrect user's name.
By following these steps and ensuring correct device configuration and assignment, users can maintain effective communication and receive important alerts while using SafetyAware with their Garmin GPSmap devices.
