SafetyAware App Fall Detection — Feature Overview

SafetyAware Fall Detection automatically identifies potential falls using smartphone motion sensors and alerts the monitoring center if a worker cannot call for help. If a fall is detected and not cancelled during a short countdown, an alert with location and user details is sent for immediate response.

SafetyAware App Fall Detection — Feature Overview

Fall Detection is an automated safety capability within our mobile application that detects potential fall events and alerts the monitoring center for action. Fall Detection ensures help can be dispatched even when a worker is unable to manually request assistance.

By combining smartphone motion sensors with configurable alert logic, Fall Detection provides reliable, organization-controlled protection without disrupting daily workflows.

How Fall Detection Works

Fall Detection leverages the smartphone’s built-in motion sensors to continuously analyze movement patterns while the application is running in the background. The system identifies motion characteristics consistent with a fall, such as a sudden impact followed by limited movement.

Once a potential fall is detected, the application initiates a confirmation process to help prevent false alerts while still ensuring rapid response when assistance is needed.

Important: Fall Detection is active only when the mobile application is running in the background.

How to Enable Fall Detection

Fall Detection is enabled and governed by your organization’s safety administrators.

Administrators can:

  • Enable or disable Fall Detection for the organization
  • Set a global countdown timer that applies to all users
  • Define default sensitivity levels organization-wide
  • Allow or restrict user-level sensitivity adjustments

Once enabled, no additional action is required by the end user beyond keeping the app running in the background with required permissions granted.

What to Experience During a Fall Event

When a potential fall is detected:

  1. The user receives an audible and visual alert indicating a fall has been detected
  2. countdown timer begins, giving the user time to cancel the alert if assistance is not required
  3. If the alert is not cancelled before the countdown expires, a fall alert is automatically triggered

This approach ensures workers who are unconscious, injured, or unable to interact with their device still receive help.

What Happens When an Alert Is Generated

If the countdown expires (default 30secs) without cancellation:

  • The fall alert is immediately sent to the monitoring center
  • The alert includes critical context such as:
  • User identity
  • Last known location
  • Alert type and timestamp
  • The monitoring center then follows your organization set escalation plan

At the same time, immediate email and SMS notifications can be sent to individuals selected by your organization, ensuring internal teams are informed in parallel.

Requirements and Permissions

To ensure Fall Detection functions correctly:

  • The mobile application must be running in the background
  • Location services must be enabled on the device
