New satellite icon shows App is waiting for a command response over Bivy Stick

When the SafetyAware App communications with the platform, every app command receives a response from the platform.  When communicating over cellular networks or Wi-Fi, this response is typically almost instantaneous. Over satellite networks, however, this response may take a significant amount of time depending on the location of the satellites in the sky – typically several minutes.

With the July 2024 SafetyAware App release, when the App is waiting for a response via satellite from the platform, a “Satellite” icon will be displayed.  This will let users know that a message has been successfully sent to the Bivy Stick, and the App is waiting for a response. When the response is received, the App will be updated, and the icon will disappear. Note that the expected response from the App action will generally not be displayed until this return message is received. For example, when checking in, after pressing the “check-in” button, the Satellite icon will appear.   The Safety Timer will not be reset until the return acknowledgement is received, indicating that the safety timer has been successfully reset on the platform.

The following figure illustrates the satellite icon symbol displayed after a “check-in” message.
