inReach Device Self-Assignment

With SafetyAware 4.1.5, we are adding the capability for a user to assign the device to themselves, through an inReach message.

Previously, before an inReach could be used with SafetyAware, it needed to be assigned to a specific user in Control Centre.   With SafetyAware 4.1.5, we are adding the capability for a user to assign the device to themselves, through an inReach message.  With this feature, if a user receives an error indicating that the inReach is not assigned, or if the inReach confirmation message indicates that the inReach is assigned to a different user, a user can now quickly identify themselves to Control Centre as the user of the inReach.

To enable this feature, simply select the “Messages” icon, and either compose a new message to the “Admin” in Contacts, or reply to any previously received message from the Control Centre platform.  For most users, this Admin E-mail address will be admin.gp.production@aware360.com, but it may also be a customer-specific address if this has been configured for your organization.   If in doubt, please contact your Company SafetyAware Administrator.

The format of the message should be:  "Assign: Your email address” or "Assign:  your callsign”.

Note that the “:” and “@” symbols are accessed on the inReach keyboard by using the “Shift” key.  Please also note that if you are entering an E-mail address, the inReach will insert a space “ “ after a period.  This space must be deleted for the command to be successful.

If successful, the user will receive a message from Control Centre with the following format:

  • "User Name" - Assigned

If the specified User ID is incorrect or unknown, the user will receive the following message:

  • Error: Unassigned

If this error message is received, there was either a mistake your Email or callsign,  Your email address or callsign will be the same information you use to log into the SafetyAware app.  if the error still persists,  please contact your local SafetyAware administrator to confirm your information your specific User ID has been set up correctly in SafetyAware Control Centre.

If no confirmation or error message is received, the firmware on the device may need to be updated.  Check the firmware version on your inReach by selecting “Settings” -> “About This Device” -> “Firmware Version”.  Compare this with the current version here. If your device has a firmware version earlier than version 5.2, it should be updated to allow messages to be delivered. For instructions regarding how to update the firmware on your device, please contact your Company SafetyAware Administrator or Aware360 support.
