inReach Command Acknowledgments

After each SafetyAware command, the user should now expect to receive a confirmation message.   These messages will appear in the “Message” inbox on the inReach, originating from the inReach Admin E-mail address.

With SafetyAware 4.1.5, we are introducing two-way acknowledgments for SafetyAware commands sent via a Garmin inReach Satellite Communicator.   Previously, SafetyAware commands sent from an inReach device were one-way, sent from the device to the SafetyAware platform.   Users received a confirmation on their inReach that a message was transmitted, but there was no confirmation that the message was properly received and processed.   Possible errors due to device configuration, or the device not being properly assigned to the user, could not be detected by the user.   There was also no reminder or notification sent to the user of alerts such as missed Safety Timer check-ins, or expired Shift Timers for delayed sign-offs.

After each SafetyAware command, the user should now expect to receive a confirmation message.   These messages will appear in the “Message” inbox on the inReach, originating from the inReach Admin E-mail address.   For most users, this will be admin.gp.production@aware360.com, corresponding to the “Admin” contact.

Confirmation Messages:

The specific confirmation messages include the following, where <User Name> is the name of the user to whom the device has been assigned in Control Centre:

  • <User Name> - startmonitor
  • <User Name> - checkin
  • <User Name> - stopmonitor
  • <User Name> - hazardset
  • <User Name> - hazardcancel
  • <User Name> - assist
  • <User Name> - assistcancel
  • <User Name> - sos
  • <User Name> - soscancel

Users will also receive messages indicating that a timer has expired and action is required:

  • <User Name> - safetyexpired:  User should check-in if they are safe to clear the alert
  • <User Name> - hazardexpired: User should cancel their Hazard Timer to clear the alert
  • <User Name> - shiftexpired: User should sign-off to clear the alert

Geofence violation alerts and notifications will also be received if configured:

  • <User Name> - geofencein:   User has entered a restricted Geofence area and should leave
  • <User Name> - geofenceout:  User has left a safe zone and should return.

For both of the above Geofence Violation alerts, the user will also receive any configured app notification messages on the inReach.

Error Messages and Incorrect User Assignment

If a user’s inReach has not been assigned to any user in Control Centre, the following error message will be received:

  • Error: Unassigned

Alternatively, if the device has been assigned to a different user, the confirmation messages documented above will display a different user’s name.

In either of these cases, the user should either contact their Administrator to assign the device to them in Control Centre, or assign the device to themselves using the new self-assignment feature.

We are very excited about these new features, and hope you agree that they will tremendously improve inReach usability and user confidence.
