Frequently asked questions: InReach Messaging

FAQs

Q: I am receiving multiple broadcast messages with the same details when my organization administrator sends me a message from SafetyAware, can this be changed?

A: This is due to the device type mix you have within your organization’s deployment. Certain device types have specific satellite plans associated to them and must be activated under a separate account by Aware360. Your organization will need to upgrade your old Gen 1 devices to Gen 2 device type(s) to remove duplicate messages.

Q: What is my InReach Master Account email address?

A: The Aware360 customer success team will supply you with the master account email address details during your InReach training. Alternatively, you can request it from us by submitting a ticket here (insert support ticket link)

Q: Can I send a direct email to an InReach device from my email account (eg: Outlook or gmail etc.) on my PC?

A: This is not supported across all InReach devices (both gen 1 & 2) due to the types of inbound messages the InReach can accept. Field workers can send a message to any email address from their InReach device.

When you receive this email, a custom URL provided by Garmin will direct you to a link where you are able to reply back to the InReach unit. This link will remain active by Garmin for you to facilitate messaging.

Alternatively, you can be added as a user within the SafetyAware solution with access to the broadcast messaging feature to send outbound messages to all your InReach devices.

Q: Can I send a message to an inReach device by using their inReach address on my phone?

A: inReach addresses are only supported for inReach to inReach messaging or when sent through the Garmin messenger app.

You cannot send a message from your mobile device to an inReach address natively (eg: typing the inReach address as the recipient within iOS messaging).

You can send a message from your mobile device to an inReach address if you utilize the Garmin messenger app to send the message.

Q: If I send a message to a mobile phone number who does not have an inReach device, what will they receive?

A: The mobile phone user will receive a message from a temporary phone number with the message details. The mobile phone user will be able to reply back for a short period of time to maintain communication with the inReach user.

The mobile phone number is temporary and should not be added into contacts for regular communication to an inReach device. If regular outbound communication to an inReach is required you can utilize the broadcast messaging feature within Control center or reference.
